In this episode of The Align Podcast, we talk about all things sex and most importantly, pleasure. Dr Laurie Mintz explains what an orgasm actually is, why it’s so important and how it differentiates between men and women. We then go on to discuss the orgasm gap and why it’s so prominent within our society. We debate how the patriarchy, body image issues, sexual trauma and cultural pressures ultimately play an important part in our sex lives.

Dr. Laurie is the author of two popular and highly acclaimed books on sexual pleasure, Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters and How to Get it and A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex: Reclaim Your Desire and Reignite Your Relationship.

She wrote her books to empower women sexually, and thousands of women who have read them have regained their sexual desire, as well as improved their sexual satisfaction, arousal, lubrication, and rates of orgasm. Men who have read the books have also learned how to pleasure women and become better sexual communicators. Becoming Cliterate has been recognized by Men’s Health as one of the best books for improving your sex life, and it won the 2019 Society for Sex Therapy and Research Consumer Book Award. She is also a tenured Professor at the University of Florida, where she teaches the Psychology of Human Sexuality to hundreds of undergraduate students each year and has won many professional awards, including being named one of 50 Sexual Health Revolutionaries by the University of Minnesota Program in Sexual Health.

Here's a simple list of my biggest lessons from 2022, consolidated down to 20 minutes and 7 lessons. Happy new year!

  1. Exercise generosity (like a muscle) daily - what you give comes back multiple-fold
  2. Practice compassion for yourself and those around you daily - without it you’ll always feel like a guest in your own heart.
  3. Create space daily to listen deeply to your internal self as well as those around you - everything you need is with you now.
  4. Intimate relationships are of the most powerful and sacred forms of deep healing work. If you choose to lean into them and are courageous enough to open your heart, it creates space for the oldest and stickiest contractive patterns from the past to be integrated and released. Your relationship is to be deeply honored, respected, and nurtured daily if you care for it to be fruitful.
  5. Take actions daily to develop self-respect and trust in yourself - do the hard things, and habituate yourself to excellence.
  6. You are only as strong as your team. Invest in people - hire a coach, therapist, mentor, etc. and nurture the relationships of those you work with. Your business is a garden, you get out of it exactly what you put into it.
  7. Love your family - this is a part of loving yourself as you are a continuation of them. Life is too short and beautiful to live behind walls, lean into vulnerability and allow yourself to be seen by those you care for most.

Join me (and 2000+ others) for the "5-Day FLOOR SITTING CHALLENGE" on January 5th for a chance to win an Ice Barrel ($1200 value) and learn 5 ways to get up and down from the ground, 5 ways to effectively sit on the ground and connect with other mobile weirdos! Gerald tells us about the ‘fourth phase’ of water and how this relates to the research between water and DNA. We also discuss how important easy water is for us and how this can increase the energy in our bodies. We question everything we know to be true about water and whether what we have been taught by textbooks is truly accurate.

Gerald Pollack received his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He then joined the University of Washington faculty and is now a professor of Bioengineering. He is also the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal, WATER, convener of the Annual Conference on the Physics, Chemistry and Biology of Water, and Executive Director of the Institute for Venture Science.

His interests have ranged broadly, from biological motion and cell biology to the interaction of biological surfaces with aqueous solutions. His 1990 book, Muscles and Molecules: Uncovering the Principles of Biological Motion, won an “Excellence Award” from the Society for Technical Communication. His 2001 book, Cells, Gels and the Engines of Life, and his newest book, The Fourth Phase of Water: Beyond Solid, Liquid, and Vapor won that Society’s “Distinguished Award,” their highest distinction. The latter book went on to receive the World Summit Excellence Award.

Pollack received an honorary doctorate in 2002 from Ural State University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and was more recently named an Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and foreign member and Academician of the Srpska Academy. He received the Biomedical Engineering Society’s Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2002. In 2008, his colleagues chose him as the recipient of his university’s highest annual distinction: the UW Faculty Lecturer Award.

Pollack is a Founding Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a Fellow of both the American Heart Association and the Biomedical Engineering Society. He received an NIH Director’s Transformative R01 Award. He was the 2012 recipient of the Prigogine Medal for thermodynamics of dissipative systems, and in 2014 he received the Scientific Excellence Award from the World Academy of Neural Therapy, as well as the Dinsdale Prize from the Society for Scientific Exploration. He has presented two TEDx talks on water.

In 2015, he won the BrandLaureate Award, previously bestowed on notables such as Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton and Steve Jobs. In 2016 he was awarded the Emoto Inaugural Peace Prize, and more recently the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chappell Natural Philosophy Society. He appears briefly in the 2016 Travis Rice sports-action film, The Fourth Phase, named after his recent book. And, he is included in the 2019 listing, OOOM Magazine, as one of the “World’s 100 Most Inspiring People.” In 2020, he presented his work at the “Majlis” by invitation from the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, at his Royal Palace.

Have you ever felt constricted by society to have a certain type of relationship?

In today’s episode with Stefanos Sifandos, we talk all about sex and relationships. We explore why humans are inclined to cheat, the nature of our communication and whether an ideal style of relationship actually exists. Social constructs can often dictate what we believe to be right, but we don’t always have to follow the norm if it doesn’t work for us. We also discuss the true meaning of infidelity, the key factors to maintaining healthy relationships and how our past traumas can affect how we view ourselves as sexual beings.

Stefanos is a trained educator and relationship expert with a background in behavioral science. He is passionate about leading people closer to their highest potential and to each other. Stefanos’ philosophy merges the best of Eastern and Western methodologies to promote spiritual balance and empower people in life and love. From trauma release to navigating the at times murky waters of modern masculinity to helping women understand the men in their lives, he helps people escape negative patterns and cultivate a positive sense of self. Stefanos has also cofounded a world-class coaching and education institute and a global men’s empowerment movement. Stefanos has worked with thousands of men and women from all walks of life; special forces soldiers, Olympic gold medalists, elite fighters, and everyday people have relied on him to restructure and reframe their relationships with themselves and their loved ones.

Have you ever asked yourself what effect the weather can really have on our moods?

In this episode of Align podcast, Ginger Zee and I discuss the negative connotations surrounding mental health and the effects this can have on someone who is struggling with a mental disorder. Ginger shares her own personal experience with suicide and what we can do to create a better future for ourselves. We also talk about the similarities between our minds and the weather, how climate relates to our moods and find out what the real definition of a storm actually is.

Ginger Zee is the chief meteorologist at ABC News, reporting on the nation’s weather for “Good Morning America” and across ABC News broadcasts and digital platforms. Additionally, Zee is the managing editor of the climate unit at ABC News. Since joining ABC News, Zee has covered almost every major weather event and dozens of historic storms. She broadcasted from the devastated Jersey Shore during Hurricane Sandy, the Colorado floods and wildfires, and covered the aftermath of tornadoes in Moore and El Reno, Oklahoma. In 2018, she was in the eye wall of Category 5 Hurricane Michael live in the Florida Panhandle and in the 2020 hurricane season, Zee told the stories of devastation from the record number of named storms. From the epic bushfires in Australia to Boston blizzards and record-breaking heat in Death Valley, Zee is there to warn and show the impacts including the relationship to climate change.

Zee’s passion does not stop with storm chasing. Her love of adventure has taken her and ABC News viewers across the world.  She has gone para-hawking in Nepal, flown a drone into the fissure of a volcano in Iceland, hiked the largest cave in the world in Vietnam, para-glided from the Himalayas to the Andes, dove with sharks in the Bahamas, rappelled 27 stories down the exterior façade of the Wit Hotel in Chicago, explored the 275 waterfalls of Iguazú Falls in Argentina and talked climate change on the edge of Victoria Falls in Africa. Plus, skydiving, ice boat racing and surfing live on “GMA.” Prior to joining ABC News, she was a meteorologist at NBC station WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago from 2006-2011, also filling in for several NBC and MSNBC News programs. Before that assignment, Zee worked at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she part of the Storm Team 8, also covering the environment, science and the impact of weather throughout West Michigan. From 2003-2005, Zee worked at WEYI NBC 25 in Flint, Michigan.

She began her career at WLAV FM/ WXMI in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Zee, who has storm chased since college, has a genuine passion for the atmosphere and a dedication to getting young people interested in science. Zee is the author of a trilogy for 8-12 year-olds called “Chasing Helicity.” She is also the author of two bestselling memoirs, “Natural Disaster” and “A Little Closer to Home,” which feature Zee’s life and mental health journey. Additionally, Zee and her husband, Ben Aaron, starred in “Renovation Realities: Ben & Ginger” on DIY Network. Zee is the co-host of Hearts of Heroes on ABC Saturday’s, highlighting the natural disasters she knows so well from the first responder and hero's point of view.

The Emmy Award-winning meteorologist attended Valparaiso University and holds a Bachelor of Science in meteorology. She also served as an adjunct professor at the University from 2008-2011. Zee also holds the CBM Seal for Meteorology.
